Qianfeng Quanbao was issued in 666 AD under Emperor Gaozong of the Tang dynasty, the year he proclaimed the auspicious reign title Qianfeng — a title abandoned after just two years. The coin's production was short-lived; by 668 the reign era had changed again, making this a narrow issue from a politically restless court still consolidating power after the empress Wu Zetian's growing influence had begun reshaping imperial administration.
Tang cash of this period is notorious for irregular casting quality across different furnace sites, and provincial variations in alloy and flan preparation are well documented within the Qianfeng type.
