| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin featuring four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square hole. Reading clockwise from top, the legend reads 洪 (Hong), 通 (Tong), 武 (Wu), 寶 (Bao), forming the reign title inscription 洪武通寶 (Hongwu Tongbao). The characters are rendered in bold, well-formed strokes with raised relief against a flat field, bounded by inner and outer raised rims. The overall style is typical of early Ming dynasty cast coinage, with clean, authoritative calligraphy reflecting imperial workshop production. |
