An English legend in Latin characters encircles the lower portion of the coin, reading TAI-CHING-TI-KUO COPPER COIN, identifying the issuing empire and the metal. The dragon's scales, whiskers, and surrounding cloud motifs are rendered in fine relief typical of the milled machine-struck production of the Hunan Mint. The overall composition follows the standardised obverse-reverse layout mandated by the Board of Revenue for provincial copper cash issues of this period. |
