Kiangsi's copper cash issues of this period emerged from the provincial mint at Nanchang, established as part of the Qing government's late-reform push to modernize token coinage and displace the centuries-old cast cash system. The "mountain" variety — distinguishing this piece within the Y#152 grouping — refers to a small character addition that created at least two recognized die variants, catalogued separately as Y#152.1 and Y#152.2.
Kiangsi was not among the more prolific provincial mints, and output figures for this specific type remain poorly documented.
