Bolivia's hyperinflation crisis of the mid-1980s was among the worst in recorded history — by 1985, annual inflation had exceeded 20,000%. The monetary reform of that year replaced the peso boliviano at a rate of one million to one, creating the boliviano as a stabilization measure.
