Comments

Bolivia's hyperinflation crisis of the mid-1980s was among the worst in recorded history — by 1985, annual inflation had exceeded 20,000%. The monetary reform of that year replaced the peso boliviano at a rate of one million to one, creating the boliviano as a stabilization measure. This note belongs to the first series issued under the new unit, printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company as Bolivia lacked domestic capacity for secure currency production.

The CBNC contract was a logical choice given the firm's long experience with Latin American central bank clients throughout the postwar decades.
