Obverse description Central field bears the Portuguese royal coat of arms, featuring the traditional escutcheon with five quinas (bezants) in saltire, surmounted by an elaborate and highly ornate crown rendered in bold relief characteristic of cast coinage. The mint letters D and B flank the shield on either side, identifying the Damão-to-Baçaim mintage authority. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by a rope or cable border running along the coin's periphery. The crude, heavily stylized execution is typical of cast copper-alloy coinage produced for the Portuguese Estado da India during the reign of João V.
