Aanvullende informatie

Romania's coinage program in the early 1880s was undergoing serious revision as the country consolidated its identity following formal independence from Ottoman suzerainty in 1878. Several pattern strikes were produced to evaluate design and compositional options before the circulating series was confirmed. This copper piece is one of those exploratory strikes — produced for official inspection rather than release, which explains both its rarity and the frequency with which surviving examples appear in substantially better condition than the eventual circulation issue.
