The encircling legend reads PIVS·IX·PON MAX·AN·XX·, referencing the pontiff's name, title of Supreme Pontiff, and regnal year. The overall composition reflects the refined neoclassical engraving tradition of the Roman Mint under the direction of Carl Friedrich Voigt. |
