| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central design presents a forward-facing bust portrait of Samson Chanba (1886–1937), the Abkhazian writer and playwright, depicted in a military-style jacket with collar insignia, rendered in high sculptural relief with fine detailing of facial features including a moustache. The name 'САМСОН ЧАНБА' is inscribed in bold Cyrillic letters along the upper arc of the coin. The birth year '1886' appears to the lower left of the portrait and the death year '1937' to the lower right, flanking the bust symmetrically. The fields are mirror-polished in prooflike finish, providing strong contrast against the frosted relief of the effigy. Abkhazia's de facto independence from Georgia — unrecognized by most of the world following the 1992–1993 war and again contested in 2008 — created an unusual monetary situation in which the territory issues collector coins with no practical circulation function. The apsar exists purely as a numismatic instrument, struck under the authority of an institution whose international standing remains disputed. The Bank of Abkhazia has relied on foreign mints for production, as the territory has no minting infrastructure of its own.
