| 裏面の説明 | At center, a portrait of the distinguished Abkhazian academic, linguist, literary critic, and folklorist Khukhut Bgazhba, rendered in high relief. The scholar's facsimile signature appears immediately below the portrait. To the lower right of the portrait, within the coin's circumference, the name 'ХӘЫХӘЫТ БҔАЖӘБА' (Khukhut Bgazhba) is inscribed in Abkhazian script. To the left of the portrait at center, the birth and death years '1914' and '2000' are indicated, commemorating the span of the academic's life. |

Abkhazia's central bank has issued collector coinage since 2004, operating in a state recognized by fewer than a dozen UN members following the 1992–1993 war with Georgia and the more consequential Russian recognition in 2008. Khukhut Bgazhba was a prominent Abkhazian historian and archaeologist whose work on the medieval period of the region gave scholarly grounding to arguments for distinct Abkhazian cultural identity — making his commemoration on a coin a pointed political act as much as an honorific one.
