Afghanistan's Treasury notes of the late 1920s were issued under Amanullah Khan's ambitious modernization program, which sought to rationalize a monetary system that had long relied on coined silver. The paper currency experiment was not a success — public trust in banknotes was essentially nonexistent across most of the country, and redemption on demand proved difficult to sustain in practice.
Amanullah's government collapsed in 1929 following the Bacha-i Saqao uprising, and with it went the institutional backing for this series. Notes from this short window are genuinely scarce in any grade.
