Phaselis was an ancient Lycian port city whose commercial reach extended well beyond its coastline — it held a privileged trading relationship with Rhodes and maintained its own autonomous bronze coinage through the Hellenistic period even as larger regional powers competed for control of Pamphylia. Small bronzes of this type circulated locally as fractional currency in a harbor economy where grain, timber, and luxury goods changed hands daily. The city's famous harbor was reportedly divided into three separate ports serving different wind conditions.
