Obverse description Within the palladium centre, a draped bust of a young girl faces left, rendered in a stylised folk-art manner. The Slovak national arms appear below the effigy, while lime leaf sprigs adorn the remaining three corners of the square gold outer ring. The date and issuer legend are inscribed along the upper and lower fields of the ring.

Additional information

Slovakia's 10,000 Sk denomination was the highest face value coin the National Bank ever issued, and this 2003 piece marking the tenth anniversary of Slovak independence is one of very few bimetallic coins in the world to pair palladium with gold. Palladium was chosen partly for its association with Slovak industrial output — the country's Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, opened in 1991, was already one of the largest automotive manufacturers in Central Europe by the time this coin was struck.

Mintages for this series ran in the low hundreds, issued exclusively as proofs for collectors and state gifts.
