The Bank of Central African States — the BEAC — issues coins for six member nations, none of which have any particular cultural or historical connection to Botticelli or Renaissance Florence. These pieces exist purely as numismatic products for the collector market, a practice the BEAC has leaned into aggressively since the mid-2010s. At over a kilogram of copper with silver plating, the economics are straightforward: production cost is low, face value is nominal, and the coins never circulate.
