Additional information

Liberia has issued commemorative gold under its own authority since the 1960s, though the country operates no functioning mint of its own — production is invariably contracted to private minting houses in Europe, most commonly in Germany or Austria. These issues circulate exclusively among collectors and bear no relationship to Liberian domestic commerce.

Cortés remains a deeply contested figure; his 1521 defeat of Tenochtitlan killed tens of thousands and ended the Aztec empire within two years of his first entering the city as a guest.
