Nicaragua issued this coin while the country was simultaneously redenominating its currency — the córdoba oro replaced the old córdoba at a rate of one million to one in 1990, making a face value of 10,000 córdobas essentially a rounding artifact of a collapsing monetary system rather than a meaningful denomination. The Albertville Games themselves were still two years out when dies were cut.
