| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Nicaraguan national coat of arms in simplified form: an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanic peaks rising from the sea, surmounted by a radiant sun and a Phrygian cap, all set within a circular inner border. The date 1990 appears in the exergue below the triangle. Nicaragua issued this coin while the country was simultaneously redenominating its currency — the córdoba oro replaced the old córdoba at a rate of one million to one in 1990, making a face value of 10,000 córdobas essentially a rounding artifact of a collapsing monetary system rather than a meaningful denomination. The Albertville Games themselves were still two years out when dies were cut.
