Poland's postwar coinage reform of 1949 scrapped the prewar designs entirely, replacing them with imagery aligned with the new communist government's visual language. Trial strikes in nickel were produced during the evaluation process before aluminum was selected as the production composition — a cost-driven decision consistent with Soviet-bloc monetary policy of the period. The aluminum 1 Złoty entered circulation that same year; the nickel trials did not.
