Obverse description Central field features the four-character Chinese inscription 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao) arranged vertically in two columns, flanked by Manchu script reading ᠶᡠᠸᠠᠨ ᠪᠣᠣ (Yuanbao) to the right. The surrounding inner legend reads 造省南江 (Made in Kiangnan Province) at the top and 分二錢七平库 (7 Mace and 2 Candareens, library flat weight) at the bottom, all within a beaded inner circle. The outer legend, arranged around the periphery, includes the cyclical date characters 戌戊 (year 24, 1898) on either side. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border at the rim, with the legends and characters executed in a bold, crisp relief typical of late Qing provincial milled coinage.
