| 裏面の説明 | Central oval vignette of a large ocean-going passenger steamship underway at sea, rendered in fine intaglio style within an ornate orange-printed border. Denomination numerals '1' appear in guilloche rosettes to either side of the central vignette. The date '1948' is inscribed within a rectangular panel at the foot of the design, framed by interlocking geometric guilloche patterns filling the entire field. |

The Bank of Kuantung (廣東銀行) was one of several provincial institutions attempting to maintain financial credibility in South China during the final, chaotic phase of the civil war. By 1948, Nationalist currency was collapsing under hyperinflation, and regional banks issuing yuan-denominated notes were operating in an environment where the value of any given note could halve within weeks of printing.
The S-prefix in the Pick reference places this firmly in the Chinese "Specialized Issues" category — provincial, local, or otherwise outside the central government banking structure. Documentation on surviving print runs is incomplete, and attribution of specific printings to particular facilities remains contested among specialists.
