Obverse description Central field bears five large Chinese characters arranged vertically and horizontally reading 大清銀幣壹圓 (Great Qing Silver Currency One Yuan), enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A Manchu script legend arcs across the upper portion of the coin, outside the beaded circle, reading the equivalent imperial inscription. Flanking the central legend on either side are finely rendered floral sprays — a narcissus to the left and a peony to the right — in high relief. The entire design is bordered by a reeded rim with an outer ring of fine dentils.
