| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting a hydroelectric dam and power lines set against Mount Paektu, all surmounted by a five-pointed star emitting rays and flanked by sheaves of rice bound at the base with a ribbon inscribed with the state name in Hangul. A circular legend in Hangul reading '조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행' (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) surrounds the device along the upper periphery. The denomination '1 원' appears in the lower field, flanked on either side by a small decorative sprig motif. |
