Reverse description A female dancer dressed in traditional Korean hanbok is depicted in a dynamic pose at center-right, holding a circular tambourine in her left hand and raising a flowing ribbon or scarf aloft with her right arm. Two stylized chrysanthemum-like rosettes appear in the upper left field. To the left, a vignette of the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang is shown, accompanied by a bilingual inscription in Hangul and Latin identifying the Arirang performance. The Hangul legend '아리랑' is inscribed vertically at the right, and the date legend 'Juche 91 (2002)' appears along the lower rim in Latin script.

Additional information

Issued to commemorate the Arirang Festival, the mass gymnastics and artistic performance event that North Korea began staging in 2002 as a large-scale political spectacle organized under direct state direction. The festival's inaugural year coincided with the 90th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birth, which determined the timing of this issue entirely.
