| 正面描述 | Central square perforation framed by a raised rim, with four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner. The four-character legend 永樂通寶 (Vinh Lac Thong Bao) occupies the cardinal positions in the field, rendered in regular script (kaishu). The coin exhibits a broad, flat flan with a plain outer rim, consistent with the cast tin cash coinage of the Nguyen lords of Cochinchina. The surfaces show heavy patination and encrustation typical of this series. |

Đàng Trong — the southern Vietnamese polity governed by the Nguyễn lords as a state within a state, nominally subordinate to the Lê dynasty but functionally independent — issued zinc and tin cash coins as a practical response to chronic copper shortages throughout the eighteenth century. The reign of Nguyễn Phúc Trú (1725–1738) coincided with ongoing conflict with the Trịnh lords to the north, diverting resources that might otherwise have sustained a more stable coinage. Tin was abundant in the region; copper was not.
