| Obverse description | Central square perforation framed by a raised rim, with four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner. The four-character legend 永樂通寶 (Vinh Lac Thong Bao) occupies the cardinal positions in the field, rendered in regular script (kaishu). The coin exhibits a broad, flat flan with a plain outer rim, consistent with the cast tin cash coinage of the Nguyen lords of Cochinchina. The surfaces show heavy patination and encrustation typical of this series. |
