Central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform fashion and read top to bottom, right to left. The inscription 正和通寶 (Chinh Hòa Thông Bảo) is rendered in raised relief against a flat field. The characters are bold and well-defined, separated by the inner rim of the square hole and the outer raised border. A plain, slightly raised rim encircles the entire obverse. |

Plain reverse featuring a central square perforation aligned with the obverse. The flat field is entirely unadorned, devoid of any inscription, symbol, or decorative element. A slightly raised rim borders the coin's periphery. The surface shows the typical texture of a cast zinc coin with natural patination. |

Chinh Hòa was the reign title of Lê Hy Tông, who ruled from 1676 to 1705 — one of the longer reigns of the restored Lê dynasty, a period when the Trịnh lords held effective power in the north while the Nguyễn dominated the south. Coins issued under Chinh Hòa were produced in substantial quantities over those decades, which complicates precise dating within the reign. Zinc cash of this type circulated alongside cast copper pieces, zinc being a pragmatic substitute when copper supplies were constrained by the demands of the competing regional powers.
