Draped female head facing right, hair arranged in a bun, rendered in archaic Etruscan style. The abbreviated ethnic legend VETL appears in the field behind the head, identifying the issuing city of Vetulonia. The portrait is modelled in low relief, characteristic of Central Italian bronze coinage of the late 3rd century BC. The flan is irregular, as typical of cast aes grave issues of this period. |

A caduceus (kerykeia), the herald's staff entwined with two serpents, depicted centrally in the field. The device serves as the series identifier for this emission of Vetulonian uncia coinage. The relief is low and the design occupies the majority of the flan, consistent with the cast aes grave technique employed by Etruscan mints during the Second Punic War period. No legend or additional devices are present. |
