| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of the king facing right, rendered in a stylized late antique manner derived from Byzantine imperial prototypes. The effigy displays a helmeted or pearl-diademed head with visible neck and draped shoulder, surrounded by a beaded border. The portrait, though schematic in execution, retains the authority of the imperial model it imitates. The legend of the moneyer BETTO MVNITAR runs around the periphery in debased Latin capitals. The overall style is characteristic of early Merovingian gold coinage minted in the name of local moneyers. |
