The effigy is encircled by a Latin legend reading D N MVTI - TB PP VI, a debased rendering of the imperial titulature of Maurice Tiberius. The overall workmanship reflects the degenerate imitative tradition of post-Roman barbarian tremisses struck in the name of the Byzantine emperor. |
