Beschrijving voorzijde Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed imperial bust facing right, rendered in the late antique Byzantine style typical of Lombard imitative coinage. The effigy is set within a beaded border and encircled by a Latin legend reading D N IVSTI - NVS PP AVC, identifying the ruler as Dominus Noster Justinus Perpetuus Augustus. The Lombards entered Italy in 568 under Alboin, displacing Byzantine authority across much of the peninsula within years. Their early coinage — including this tremissis — deliberately mimicked imperial types still circulating under Justin II's name, a practice that persisted for over a century after the conquest. The imitation was not mere flattery; it was economic necessity, since Italian merchants and landowners trusted the solidus system and the Lombards had no minting tradition of their own to fall back on.

The "Victory facing left, large ribbon" subtype within this broad series helps narrow attribution, though Arslan's corpus acknowledges considerable overlap between Lombard and other post-Roman imitative issues from northern Italy.
