| Descripción del reverso | The reverse depicts a naturalistic rendering of the brown trout (Salmo trutta fario), shown in left profile as a large adult fish occupying the upper and central field, with two smaller juvenile trout rendered below it, evoking a sense of depth and natural habitat. The scientific name 'SALMO TRUTTA FARIO' is inscribed along the lower periphery as a curved legend in Latin script. The numeral '1' appears at the top of the field above the primary fish motif. The engraving captures fine anatomical detail including scale patterning, fins, and spotted markings characteristic of the species, reflecting Slovenia's rich freshwater heritage. |

Slovenia introduced the tolar in October 1991, just months after declaring independence from Yugoslavia in June of that year. The National Bank was established and the new currency issued under considerable urgency — Yugoslavia's dinar was still circulating alongside the tolar during a brief transitional period, and the speed of the monetary changeover was itself a political signal to international observers watching the dissolution of the federation.
The tolar remained in circulation until January 2007, when Slovenia became the first former Yugoslav republic to adopt the euro.
