Issued to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Mongolian People's Revolution of 1921, which brought Soviet-backed forces under Damdin Sükhbaatar to power and established what became the Mongolian People's Republic — the world's second communist state after Soviet Russia. The anniversary series of which this coin is part was Mongolia's first significant foray into commemorative coinage.
