In 1807, Napoleon's reorganization of the Rhineland brought these arrangements under pressure, and the city issued this copper token as a receipt instrument tied to that fiscal apparatus. Full Jewish emancipation in Frankfurt followed in 1811, rendering the entire system — and this token with it — obsolete within four years of issue.
