Obverse description Central quartered shield of arms displaying the dynastic bearings of Brunswick and Lüneburg, surmounted by an elaborately mantled and crested helmet with foliate ornamental scrollwork extending to either side, the whole composition occupying the field in high relief. The circumferential legend in Latin characters names Duke Wolfgang of Brunswick-Grubenhagen by his titles, with the abbreviated date 95 appearing at the conclusion of the inscription.

Reverse description The entire field is occupied by a five-line funerary inscription in bold Roman capitals, recording the date of death of Duke Wolfgang as the 14th of March in the year MDXCV, and attesting that he lived 63 years, 11 months, and 17 days. Below the inscription appears the mintmaster's mark or symbol, flanked by small floral ornaments, all within a beaded inner border and plain outer rim.
