The Bavarian coat of arms, an ornate shield with the lozengy field of Bavaria surmounted by an electoral bonnet and flanked by elaborate scroll mantling, occupies the central lower field. The date 16-57 is split across the lower field on either side of the escutcheon. The legend O. MARIA. ORA. PRO. ME. curves around the upper portion of the coin within a beaded border, invoking the Virgin's intercession. |
