| Obverse description | Central field displays the civic arms of Donauwörth: a double-headed imperial eagle with wings spread, bearing on its breast a shield charged with the letter 'W', the whole surmounted by an imperial crown. The arms are rendered in fine engraved detail typical of mid-16th century German die work. A circular beaded inner border separates the arms from the surrounding legend, which incorporates the date '48' (for 1548) at the upper left of the field. The Latin legend runs clockwise around the periphery, abbreviated in the customary humanist epigraphic style of the period. |
