The portrait is executed in the grand Baroque manner characteristic of late 17th-century German coinage, with deeply incised detail and a wide milled border. |

The circular Latin legend CLYPEVS OMNIBVS IN TE SPERANTIBVS, meaning 'A shield to all who trust in Thee,' with the date 1694, reads around the periphery, separated by a star. |
