| Descrizione del rovescio | Saint Rupert, patron saint of Salzburg, is depicted seated facing on clouds at centre, vested in full episcopal regalia including mitre and cope, holding a crozier in his left hand and raising his right hand in blessing. He is accompanied by two putti at lower right, one of whom holds a barrel — a traditional attribute of the saint — while a winged cherub hovers beside them. The date 1745 appears in the upper field. The circular Latin legend naming the saint and his see runs around the periphery within a milled border. |

Jakob Ernst von Liechtenstein served as Archbishop of Salzburg from 1745 until his death in 1747 — one of the shortest episcopates in the see's history. His thaler coinage was authorized almost immediately upon his installation, which explains why examples dated 1745 account for the bulk of the type's total output. The Salzburg mint at this period was working from well-maintained dies, and the Madonna thalers of his reign show consistently crisp fields compared to the more heavily lapped dies of his predecessor Firmian's later issues.
Zöttl distinguishes two die marriages for this date, cataloged as 2816 and 2817, differentiated by minor variations in the archbishop's titulature arrangement.
