These years bracket the opening phase of what became a catastrophic Ottoman offensive: the 1663 campaign under Grand Vizier Köprülü Fazıl Ahmed Pasha swept through Royal Hungary, taking the fortress of Érsekújvár (Nové Zámky) in September after a five-week siege.
