Frederick William ruled Mecklenburg-Schwerin for less than two years before dying in 1713 at age seventeen, making his coinage among the shortest-reign issues of the German thalers. The 1707–1708 dating on this piece reflects the early years of his minority rule, when regency governance complicated ducal administration.
