| Obverse description | Central plain, straight-sided shield bearing the arms of Brunswick, surmounted by the date 1555, all set within an ornamental beaded or cable circle. The abbreviated names of the four co-ruling princes appear in the surrounding legend field, rendered in Gothic-influenced Latin lettering. The shield's heraldic charges are rendered in high relief consistent with the hammered coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. |
