| Obverse description | Left-facing draped and uniformed bust of Duke Ernest I, depicted in military dress adorned with epaulettes and multiple orders and decorations on the chest, rendered in high relief. The effigy is truncated at the shoulder, with the date 1817 appearing in the exergue below the bust. The encircling legend reads ERNST HERZOG ZU SACHSEN COBURG UND SAALFELD, distributed around the periphery of the field. |
