Three elaborate ornate helmets with crests and mantling are arranged above the shield, in the heraldic tradition of Saxon armorial coinage of the period. The encircling Latin legend continues from the obverse, completing the rulers' titles as Dukes of Saxony. The overall composition reflects the formal heraldic engraving style typical of late Renaissance German Thaler coinage. |

Christian II, John George, and August ruled jointly as co-Electors of Saxony following the death of their father Christian I in 1591 — an arrangement that held until August died in 1615 and John George reached his majority. The three-brother coregency was unusual even by the standards of Saxon inheritance custom, and thalers struck under all three names represent a relatively narrow window of just over two decades. The years 1600–1601 fall near the midpoint of that joint reign, with Christian II nominally the senior figure despite the collegial fiction of equal rule.
