Aversbeschreibung Three half-length facing busts of the co-ruling Electors of Saxony — Christian II, Johann Georg I, and August — arranged side by side in a formal frontal composition. The date is divided and placed above the figures, flanked on either side, with a small imperial orb at the top center of the field. The encircling legend names all three rulers in abbreviated Latin. The portraiture is rendered in the detailed engraving style characteristic of late sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century Saxon coinage.

Reversbeschreibung A large central shield bearing the twelve-fold arms of the Electorate of Saxony, with an inescutcheon at center displaying the arms of Electoral Saxony (barry of ten or and sable with a crancelin). Three elaborate ornate helmets with crests and mantling are arranged above the shield, in the heraldic tradition of Saxon armorial coinage of the period. The encircling Latin legend continues from the obverse, completing the rulers' titles as Dukes of Saxony. The overall composition reflects the formal heraldic engraving style typical of late Renaissance German Thaler coinage.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Christian II, John George, and August ruled jointly as co-Electors of Saxony following the death of their father Christian I in 1591 — an arrangement that held until August died in 1615 and John George reached his majority. The three-brother coregency was unusual even by the standards of Saxon inheritance custom, and thalers struck under all three names represent a relatively narrow window of just over two decades. The years 1600–1601 fall near the midpoint of that joint reign, with Christian II nominally the senior figure despite the collegial fiction of equal rule.
