Above the drum, a ribbon cartouche bears the motto PRO PATRIA in raised letters. The outer circular legend in Latin reads BRAND BORVSS DVC OFFERT C W B D K M DC LXXIX PRO PATRIA, incorporating the Roman numeral date MDCLXXIX (1679) and identifying the offering made on behalf of the duchy of Brandenburg-Prussia. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with milled coinage of the period. |
