Obverse description Central device depicts a double-headed eagle displayed, each head facing outward, surmounted by a single imperial crown above the junction of the necks; the eagle rises from a stylized rocky or grassy ground, with wings spread and talons visible. A curved scroll or ribbon bearing the legend PRAESIDIA PRINCIPIS arches across the upper field of the coin interior. The peripheral legend in Latin encircles the design within a beaded border, reading IN HONOREM SER PRINC D D CHRIST ERNEST MARCH, referencing Margrave Christian Ernest of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. The overall style is consistent with late seventeenth-century German baroque die-engraving.

Reverse description Central device features a large antique-style drum or kettledrum resting on a ground, flanked on the left by a cluster of grapes and on the right by an olive or laurel branch, symbolising abundance and peace. Above the drum, a ribbon cartouche bears the motto PRO PATRIA in raised letters. The outer circular legend in Latin reads BRAND BORVSS DVC OFFERT C W B D K M DC LXXIX PRO PATRIA, incorporating the Roman numeral date MDCLXXIX (1679) and identifying the offering made on behalf of the duchy of Brandenburg-Prussia. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with milled coinage of the period.
