Beschrijving keerzijde The entire reverse field is occupied by an eleven-line inscription in Latin, giving the full titles and dignities of Bernhard Gustav of Baden-Durlach, with the date of his confirmation rendered in Roman numerals on the final line. The text is arranged in evenly spaced horizontal lines across the flat field, surrounded by a beaded border. The lettering is clear and deeply struck in the baroque engraving style. There is no figurative design element; the inscription itself constitutes the sole decorative and informational content of the reverse.

Aanvullende informatie

Bernhard Gustav of Baden-Durlach served as Coadjutor of Fulda from 1671 before succeeding as Prince-Abbot — a secular prince of the Holy Roman Empire wielding both ecclesiastical and temporal authority. The abbey's right to strike thalers was a jealously maintained privilege, and this issue dates to the early years of his administration, a period when Fulda was still recovering economically from the devastations of the Thirty Years' War, which had ended just over two decades prior.

The Gehring-Erdmann reference places this among a small die study grouping, suggesting limited production runs rather than sustained minting activity.
