Obverse description Central field dominated by the arms of Hamburg — a three-towered white castle (the Hammaburg) rendered in high relief within a beaded inner circle. The date 1553 appears prominently in the upper portion of the legend. The surrounding Latin inscription runs clockwise along the outer border, separated from the central device by the beaded ring.

Reverse description Standing figure of the crowned Madonna in flowing robes occupying the central field, holding the Christ Child aloft in her left arm, both figures rendered in the late Gothic manner within an inner beaded and foliate border. Below the Madonna, an ornately decorated heraldic shield bearing the Hamburg nettleleaf (Nesselblatt) device is prominently displayed. The divided Latin legend, an excerpt from the Annunciation (Luke 1:38), runs along the outer border in two parts separated by the central motif.
