The die-work is characteristic of the Milanese hammered testone tradition of the early sixteenth century, with bold, high-relief rendering of the heraldic devices. |

A small devotional object appears at his feet. The saint is rendered in high relief with considerable sculptural detail in the drapery folds, consistent with the refined Milanese die-engraving of the Sforza period. The surrounding Latin legend, reading SANCTUS AMBROSIUS and divided across the field, encircles the composition within a beaded border. |
